Langton's Pioneer Express 1863 DOCUMENT Package To Be Delivered to WELLS FARGO Shipped From Downieville to Marysville This is an outstanding WELLS FARGO and Langton's Pioneer Express related document from California's gold rush region, dating from the Civil War . This is a RARE and unusual document linking two of the most famous express companies in the history of the American West. The document itself is a partly-printed "LANGTON'S PIONEER EXPRESS" signed receipt , dated January 4th 1863 , in which an oriental person (probably CHINESE) from the historic California "gold rush" town of Downieville (Dville) is sending a package of money to the "gold rush" town of Marysville (Mville) - to be then forwarded by Wells Fargo & Co. to another oriental person in San Francisco . It is signed in ink along the bottom with the initials "A. T. L." - very possibly A. T. Langton, the brother of Samuel W. Langton. The document reads in full : "LANGTON'S PIONEER EXPRESS, Value, $80 Dville (Downieville) Jany 4, 1863 Received from Qwang Wu (???) 1 pck (package) said to contain Eighty Dollars Addressed Hong Yuen (???) S. Fra (San Francisco) which we agree to forward to Mville (Marysville) and deliver to W. F. + Co. (Wells Fargo + Co.) Freight $1.50 pd (paid) FOR LANGTON'S PIONEER EXPRESS. A. T. L.
