Otpanyaha is back in Laos for a short period, with access to a range of exquisite hand woven textiles, both old and new. All pieces offered on this site are hand chosen for their aesthetic value, as well as their high quality of production. Occasional imperfections and irregularities, as well as minor wear for old pieces, are incidental to the nature of the items. These traditionally made pieces comprise 100% natural silk, cotton and hemp fibres, usually hand spun and, w possible, coloured with natural plant dyes. Please contact me if you have any queries. This exquisite hand-woven silk textile is the decorative section from a Pa Pan Hua , a traditional head dress , as made and worn by the hilltribe women of Huapanh in northern Laos . It possesses the highest qualities of traditional craft as well as the artisanship for which Laotian women weavers are famed. The silk is of very fine quality, both light and strong, and the colours were created with natural plant dyes. The intricately woven images depict Naga , the mythical snake or serpent deity. The central panel depicts the full bodied serpent. Representations in the other panels include a Naga temple, mating Nagas and Fire Naga . This piece would be well suited to a variety of uses. It could be hung as it is, framed, or backed with fabric to hang or used as a table runner. read more
