The famous Laphroaig 'Leapfrog' - COLLECTORS BOTTLE Signed by Simon Coughlin co-founder of Murray McDavid!! There have been occasional efforts by distillers to curtail independent bottling; Allied Domecq, the then owners of Laphroaig distillery, initiated legal action against Murray McDavid in an effort to prevent them from using "Distilled at Laphroaig Distillery" in their independent bottlings of said whisky. Murray McDavid subsequently used the name "Leapfrog" instead. Allied Distillers then trying to stop the tiny whisky bottling firm from using the word Leapfrog. Allied claimed the name could be confused with their own Laphroaig - pronounced la-froig - a malt from Islay which carries the prince's royal warrant. Murray McDavid then applied to register Leapfrog as a trademark. In an article in the Guardian newspaper Murray McDavid branded Allied "plonkers" and accused them of bullying. Eventually Allied backed down and eventually Murray McDavid were allowed to use the Laphroaig name on their bottlings. The 'Leapfrog' bottles are now highly sought after!
