We are happy to be able to offer for auction this beautiful and incredibly detailed early 19th century Sampler completed and signed by Ann Greenaway 1838 with No Reserve! This is a beautiful work! It has so many detailed motifs and in such pleasing colors. It is a large sized sampler, 22 3/4" by 18". An ivy and floral vine borders the entire sampler. It is primarily symmetrical in design, beautifully balancing the verse in the center. At the top are two Women carrying baskets two pine trees a small dog and tiny bird beside each tree two deer laying, one on each side of an urn of flowers with winged birds.Below this are two large elaborate potted flowering plants two peacocks, one on each side of a basket of flowers two doves on pedestals, each clutching an olive branch two sprigs of roses, a tiny bird below each two small baskets of flowers two Eagles two large baskets of flowers two small flowering plants on each side of a stem of Roses in the lower left corner is stitched 'Crane' and in the lower is stitched 'Bromley'Centered within a delicate meandering leaf and rose vine are a Star , two large flower and heart motifs, and a verse: Return trust not to youth ~ To strength, health, wealth renown ~ Thine eyelids shall be shut ~ Ere e.en this day goes down ~ Where.er thy steps are bent ~ Death hovers by thy side ~ Thou know.st not what an hour ~ May to thy fate betide Ann Greenaway's Work Aged 12 1838 The sampler is worked in silk on homespun linen. There is a variety of stitches in many beautiful colors - shades of blues, greens, browns, cream, gold, pink, red, copper. There is some slight color running, foxing and a tiny bit of fabric deterioration in the lower left side. The sampler is mounted on a wooden frame and both are framed in an old black frame with gilt trim 23 1/2"h x 19"w. It was found this way in Essex, Massachusetts 25 to 30 years ago and has been hanging in a private home since then until now. An incredible find! This Beautiful Large and Exceptionally Detailed Sampler dated 1838 is being offered with No Reserve!
