Hi, we are offering a great antique porcelain jewelry/powder box. The lid is 7 inches across and the base is 7 1/2 inches across. It is marked on the bottom, C. F. M. Co. Makama. It has no chips or cracks. It has handpainted detailing. The black line on the bottom is not a crack it is a scrape across the bottom. Only cosmetic, not damaged. The mirror frame is a little loose but still secure, it wobbles a little, but again is still secure. It looks French to me but I could be wrong, I did some research on the mark and could not find anything on it to identify the origin. Its a nice large box, bigger than most. Great detail in the picture. Colors are very nice. Thanks for looking and if you have a question please send an email and we will answer as soon as we can.
Hi, we have been able to get additional information on this piece and it is from the C. F. Monroe Company of Connecticut. It is an American made piece dated around 1900, it is in the Queen Louise series, it is made of opal glass. I found a picture of it on line after getting a message from another ebayer, thank you to her, this particular box was appraised on the Antique RoadShow in 2005 at $2000, our box is missing a front clasp which I didnt realize until I saw the one online. The mirror is not broken but is suppose to wobble the way it does so a women could adjust it, to look in. Any questions, please send an email and we will answer as soon as we can. Good Luck Bidding When we originally listed this jewelry box, I thought it was porcelain, but after getting more info it is "not" porcelain, it is glass.
