OMG!! This is a really unique piece. What I have here is an antique Puppet or Marionette. It is some kind of mythical beast. I was told by a fellow Ebay seller, that this is a Sicilian, "ORLANDO" Italian Hippogriff ( italian for marionette) .Large and measures: 27" tall, add an extra 11" for the handlers stick, he is with the wings about 8" wide, and the length is 29" with tail. I dont have a large scale at home, but I believe his weight is 30 pounds. The puppet seems to be made of a base covered in Papier Mache. His head top is covered in real feathers, and some are missing. The tail seems to be that of a real deer. The puppet is missing the ribbon that goes thru the bridle and it is missing the string that moves the head up and down. Due the the age of the piece, you could replace the string, but I would not move it around a lot. The front legs are jointed for movement, and the back hips move. the wings are made of a heavy cardboard, and they move. The wings were hand painted. One is bent or broken at the tip.
