This vintage carved shell cameo pin is 2" x 1 3/8". I am tentatively dating is circa 1870 based on the style of the carving and because in my research I've found photos of 2 cameos set in a similar wavy frame and these were dated to the 1870s by the books' authors. Unfortunately the cameo has a chip in the upper corner (see photo with arrow). I don't think this is recent dadmage. There are 6 white metal tabs in the back that help hold the cameo in place. This little chip is right above one of those tabs and was most likely caused by the pressure of the tab. If this was a modern cameo I wouldn't even bother to list it with damage but, because of the age, I feel that it deserves to be salvaged and enjoyed. The setting appears to be goldplated but it's not marked in any way. The manufacture is not sophisticated. There are bits of solder showing and it has the usual C clasp. The carving is not deep, but the artist has managed to give the face real character with just a few strokes. Shipping at $3.00
