LARGE BINDING - ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT c. 1700’s A very large original binding which once contained an illuminated manuscript Antiphonal (Gregorian Chant) crafted in Italy, circa 1700’s. This binding was likely a monastic production at the commune/monastery in Olbia. It is composed of brown leather over wooden boards, with four brass corner fittings and a pair of elaborate iron clasps. The front and back boards are each about 20 x 13 inches. The open binding measures 20 x 31 inches (510 x 800 mm). It weighs a hefty 8 pounds. Condition is shown in the photos. Although there is evident wear, it is in remarkably nice condition. It is larger and in better condition than the two bindings of similar age from the same monastery that I sold on eBay last year. They each sold for over $ 150.00, and this one should be even more valuable. It has a low starting price and no reserve. Because of its large size, shipping in the United States will be USPS Parcel Post at $20.00. International shipping by Airmail Parcel Post will be at least $85.00, depending on the country. International bidders should verify shipping costs before bidding. We prefer For international purchase we accept only PayPal . Ohio residents should add 6.5% sales tax.
