It is not very likely to find burmite (Burmese) amber for sale on eBay or elsewhere due to its rarity and the current political situation with Burma (Myanmar) resulting in this amber supply being presently cut off. Some burmite is cut and polished to make beautiful gem quality amber stones of various colors while fossil inclusion containing burmite has great scientific value. The sanctions have also resulted in other gemstones from Burma such as their coveted rubies being restricted. The pieces I am offering came from rough acquired before the 2003 sanctions began. Up for purchase is a lovely, hand-sanded and polished piece of authentic, considerably rare and hard to find, burmese amber gemstone. The piece has nice resin layering, coloration, and good size. The layers can be seen best when light is shining through the piece. The piece weighs 5.4 grams (around 25 carats) and has a length of 35 mm, a height of 10 mm, and a width of 25 mm. Burmese amber is quite rare to find from an already difficult to acquire source of gem quality amber. The piece was hand-polished by me from rough as it came from the earth in Burma. It could be used to make very unique jewelry or kept as a gemstone. Please see all the pictures that were taken in natural sunlight. Burmite is the name given for amber originating from Burma (Myanmar). This amber deposit is considered to be among the oldest in the world (Cretaceous in age) along with New Jersey and Lebanese ambers and was sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs. It is highly valued not only due to its beauty but also significant scientific value. In 2007, a scientific paper was published describing the oldest known mushroom to ever be found in amber. This amber originated from Myanmar (Burma). Being that it is such a hard fossil resin as compared to other ambers (making it more durable for wear) and can possess beautiful flow lines and colors, burmite is widely sought after for jewelry as well as scientific studies. Thank you for your consideration. Please see my Dominican amber items with insects and botanicals as well, sometimes including rare blue amber. Also, do please consider the large, genuine Colombian copal specimens as well as Dominican amber with a variety of insect and botanical inclusions I am currently offering at low starting bids. A SPECIAL NOTE CONCERNING BUYERS FROM GERMANY : Due to problems I have had with items reaching their destination in Germany, I am asking that any potential bidders from this country please be aware that I am requiring shipment via Priority Mail International or Express Mail International. These are more expensive than First Class Mail International (Typically U.S. $13.45 for PMI and U.S. $28.95 for EMI Flat Rate Envelope) that I typically ship international parcels via; however, they are faster and are more likely to reach their destination. EMI also provides up to $100 insurance at no additional charge. If you do not wish to pay the higher shipping cost, then please do not bid! I cannot be held responsible for lost parcels. A SPECIAL NOTE CONCERNING INTERNATIONAL BUYERS : Please understand that import duties, taxes and charges are NOT included in the selling price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check your country's customs office to determine what these additional charges may be prior to bidding/buying. I cannot guarantee delivery of your item in a set amount of time. Different country's customs offices take longer to process items than others do. Lastly, I do not mark merchandise values below their true value or mark items as "gifts." U.S. and International government regulations prohibit such behavior. Honesty is the best option. I only sell genuine, all-natural, non-heat treated, reconstituted, or color enhanced amber. Please note that the majority of Dominican amber is NOT fossiliferous as this piece . Fossiliferous pieces have more value . This piece could be used as...
