This larger than usual coin silver julep cup was made by J.E. Caldwell & Co., who has been in business in Philadelphia from 1848 to the present. It measures 4-1/84 inches in height, 3-1/2 inches in diameter at the top and 2-3/4 inches in diameter at the base. It weighs 5.27 troy ounces. The cup is flat bottomed, has banding at the top, and is engraved with a crest and the motto Virtute et Labore, which translates to 'by strength of character and diligence', or 'by valour and exertion'. The cup is very nice and a bit heftier than most.
