all ca 1890, includes 71 silver prints with 63, ca 6" x 8" and 8, ca 4" x 5", all mounted on original card stock, most double-sided. Interesting collection of what appears to be early "war games" exercises, with 1st Reg. Minn. National Guard at drill, in field target shooting, signal corps, barracks and tent encampments, most carrying trapdoor Springfield rifles, in various uniforms from dress blues to field dress to comic costumes, several great images of the Regimental band and large group of early aerial photographs of the camp and practice grounds, likely taken from a balloon, mounted troops, field artillery, field hospital and much more, all card stock are 10" x 12". Many of the images have manuscript pencil captions. Lot also includes a copy of periodical Minnesota History 45/4 Winter 1976 with lead article entitled Social Soldiers The Winona Company and the Beginnings of the Minnesota National Guard by Donald M. Douglas with history of the Guard and other images of this Camp Lakeview, near Lake City, Minnesota.
