Antique Danish Silver & Enamel Souvenir Spoon celebrating the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus. The handle is surmounted by a well-modeled finial figure of Columbus and has enameled foliate and berry decoration above a cast eagle figure at the handle and bowl joint, the shallow gilt bowl is enameled with a map of the western hemisp and labeled "CHICAGO 1492 1892". Marked [P.HERTZ] [830] presumably for Peter Hertz of Copenhagen, Denmark and signifying the 830/1000 silver standard. This spoon was probably sold at the Danish section of the Columbian Exposition held at Chicago in 1892 and 1893. An exceptional souvenir spoon and probably quite unusual. Overall length is 7 1/4" long, bowl diameter is 2 3/8" long, approximately 3.5 troy oz.
