LARGE COMPOTE / TAZZA VASE MULTI-MOTIF ABP CUT GLASS NR A QUICK MESSAGE TO ALL OF MY EBAY WATCHERS: After these items that I have just listed, I will be taking some time off from eBay to catch up on things that are on my lengthy to-do list. If all goes as planned, I'll be back sometime in mid to late April to continue my eBay business as usual. ITEM DESCRIPTION GLASS CUTTER / PATTERN NAME: Both the cutter and pattern name are unknown to me. This piece definitely has the look of good quality American Brilliant Period cut glass. The cutting on this has strong similarities to Clark's Genoa pattern as seen in the 1905 section of the ACGA Clark catalog reprints, but calling it a variation may be stretching it a bit. My only other guess is that Clark possibly cut this pattern for a retailer or wholesaler of their cut glass. AGE: This piece was surely made sometime in the early 1900's. BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916) MEASUREMENTS: 7-1/2" high and 8-3/4" wide WEIGHT / RING: It weighs a hefty 4.3 pounds and has a very good ring when tapped. BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: Blown / Bright and clear. CUTTING DETAILS: The main miters have good depth and the overall precision is very good. The 24-point hobstar cut on the bottom is a good sign that this is a better than average piece. POLISHING QUALITY: The finish looks and feels crisp. CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): On the inner edge of one tooth is a shallow flake that is 1/8" in size. Otherwise the teeth look very good with just a couple of pencil point or less sized nicks. Hiding in the side pattern area is a small flake that is only 1/8" in size and a few more pencil point or less sized nicks. The base is in great shape and shows what I would call moderate wear on the bottom high spots. The top interior looks excellent. FINAL COMMENTS: Compotes like this are getting harder to find every day that goes by. This one has flashy multi-motif cutting combined with a nice form. Give it a good home. BIDDING FORMAT: T is no reserve with a $9 starting price. This is my favorite way to sell even high-priced items. I will never under any conditions end my auctions early to sell to an anxious buyer requesting a buy it now. SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for both shipping and insurance combined by USPS Priority Mail to anyw in the U.S.A. will be $10. I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A.
