This flag came from an auction, w the elderly owner, kept everything in it's original box or package, and labeled each item. This flag is a 49 star, U.S. flag that was made and used for approximately one year, from July 4, 1959 to July 4, 1960. It was issued when Alaska became the 49th state. The next year in 1960, Hawaii became the 50th state. So it had a short useable life. The flag is 3' X 5'. Or to be exact, 35" X 61". I was made by the Valley Forge Flag Company, in Pennsylvania, one of the leading flag makers in this country. The design is printed on quality cotton, and has two brass grommets for mounting the flag to the clips on the rope, to raise it. Seven rows of seven stars. Flags undoubtly saw little, if any, use. It is very clean. No damage or spots. Also included is a pamphlet showing the proper way to display the flag, and on the opposite side, the national holidays are listed, when the flag should be flown. Also included is a piece of cloth, with two stars printed on it. I don't know if these were included in anticipation of the upcoming 50 star flag, or what. Whatever the reason, it is unique.
