Description Butterflies were a source of fascination for the Victorians and found their way into jewelry. Iridescent wings were made into pendants, brooches, and earrings. Intricate butterfly collages and what look like paintings were also in fashion. This is a lovely--and unusually large--double sided antique Victorian butterfly collage pendant.This arrangement also incorporates dried flowers and what looks like milk thistle. The setting is a white metal which could be cleaned up a bit. The two pieces of locket glass are nicely beveled and slightly bow out. The colors are lovely and unfaded. This pendant is a fine example of this particular type of Victorian ornamentation. In addition to being a pendant, this piece looks nice hanging on the wall and works well as a mobile. Dimensions Diameter: 1 and 15/16 inches.Weight: 17.3 grams. Condition Please read the description first. As the pictures show, this piece is in excellent condition. The compositions are intact and unfaded. The glass fits well into the setting. There is only one small scratch that I can see on close examination on one side of the piece. There is a little discoloration of the setting in a couple of places that could possibly be cleaned off. The screw closure works well.
