A Very large early David White lamp base 1960,s hand throw stoneware with Combe scratch decoration.In excellent condition no damage, cracks, chips or repairs. Signed in full on base. Height 20”-500mm diameter approx. 1§0”-255mm.weight 7Kg. wired and ready for a shade.Some info on David WhiteDavid White started Thanet Pottery in Westwood near Margate, Kent with his sister Mary in 1961. The company was successful, but had to close in 1967. His next venture was Broadstairs Pottery a few miles along the Kent coast. He ran it from 1968 to 1983, when he sold it so that he could concentrate on one-off studio pieces.Born in Kent in 1934, David White attended the Royal College of Art in 1956-59, attaining First Class Hons. In 1960, he was joint winner of the Duke of Edinburgh's award for Elegant Design, and his Design of the Year is on permanent display at the Victoria and Albert Museum.Between 1959 and 1983, David White founded and managed two pottery companies, producing hand thrown domestic ware. Since then, he has worked from home producing individual pieces in porcelain for Galleries.Please see my other items, all are genuine and NOT reproduction.
