Sophronia Antiques is proud to offer this rare egyptian burial statue purchased from a local estate. The statue depicts the Egyptian god Sobek in mummified form. It is extremely large, the standard size wine bottle is included for comparison, and it is balanced enough to stand on its own. There is great detail in how the face was created to depict a crocodile, and remnants of paint appear to be present on the piece. The piece appears to have been glued together from a prior fall. It is possible that it fell from the standing position or was found in pieces. There also appears to be areas of water and heat damage. There are also various holes in the piece from when it was fired. This is truely a great item. It is the only one I have been able to find like it - VERY rare and unsual - it displays very well. It's condition issues are something expected with age, and are small when compared to the possibility of being able to purchased something like this ever again. All Egyptian antiquities must have a pre-1983 provenance. This was purchased from a deceased man's estate here in Illinois - so there is no way to authenticate it. It is expensive and authenticating it without a provenance would be pointless for the owner. RETURNS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED IF IT ARRIVES BROKEN, AND THEY WILL BE ISSUED THROUGH EBAY'S SHIP COVERAGE. We will pack the item EXTREMELY WELL to avoid this - so do not worry! Please examine the pictures and feel free to ask any questions. Pre-existing condition issues that are described do not warrant a return. Sorry for the disclaimers... just LOTS and LOTS of questions/interest surrounding this guy. The statue measures 16 3/4 inches tall, 6 inches deep (from snout to back of head), and 5 inches wide. The interior color, not sure what the statue is made of, varies detween dark brown, orange, and white depending on the location inspected.
