It is quite similar to another of his paintings, where this same building or Inn, has the words Old Spanish Inn on the side roof overhang. A Horse and Carriage adds romance to the painting. What makes this painting extraordinary, aside from Fritzs obvious talent and painting style, is the size. Auction records for his paintings were in the 16 x 20 inch range or smaller. This painting measures (exposed) 29 ½ x 33 ¾ inches. Outside frame measurements are 33 ¾ inches x 28 ½ inches. Our auction estimate is $1000-$1200, and our reserve is under $400.Additional Information: Emmett Fritz (1917-1995) Fritz studied at Pratt Institute and briefly with the noted Norman Rockwell. He painted landscapes in New England and also worked for the comic strip "Roxie West". In 1950, he moved to St. Augustine, Florida, and became a much-loved member of the prospering artists' community. A prolific painter in both watercolor and oil, Fritz was successful in his own colorful impressionist style painting Carribbean islands and street scenes of St. Augustine and Palm Beach. One of his paintings is in the publication Lost Colony: The Artists of St Augustine, by Robert W Torchia. In 2004, a major show "Emmett Fritz Memorial Exhibit" was sponsored jointly by the St Augustine Art Association and the Historical Society. His work is in museums and private collections, including the collection of King Juan Carlos of Spain. ;Type of Piece: Oil Painting in frame, original, signed ;Approx.
