Up for bids is a Beautiful Example of Galena Pottery This is a great find. I believe this is a rare example of 19th century Galena Pottery, hand thrown and glazed inside and out. You can see the throwing rings inside the piece from when it was being made. It has the traditional Galena Pottery green dappled glaze. No glaze on the bottom. This is in excellent shape overall. There are some hairlines in the bottom, and one crack that is on the bottom edge that hairlines about one third to half way up the piece. I shined a bright light into the pot and didn't see any light coming through the cracks so I believe it is pretty solid.. but since condition is objective, check the photos for exact condition. I tried my best to highlight the flaws in high resolution, zoomed in photos, so there is nothing hiding. Keep in mind the flaws are extremely zoomed in (the camera was a few inches away). The first photo shows the flaw, so you can see, the flaws aren't really noticeable in person... especially when the pot is sitting on it's base. For being 100-150 years old it has held up quite well and is in nice shape. There are no missing pieces, or chips, just what you see in the photos. The white marks on the pottery are just dirt, I didn't attempt to clean it off, I decided to leave that up to the new owner. This is by far one of the nicest pieces of Galena Pottery I have seen come up for sale on eBay. This awesome piece has a 2 stamped in the top of it before the lip, I assume that means it is a 2 gallon pot. It is larger than most I have seen come up for sale on eBay. It meaures in at about 12.5" tall and the outer diameter of the lip is about 6.5" wide. The lip is in excellent shape as you can see in the photos, there isn't any chips as you usually see in these. The glaze has a nice sheen to it, and it has plenty of the trademark green splotching on it. Check out the photos I do not think you will be disappointed with this one. These rarely come up for sale, this is the only one on eBay as I type this. If you like what you see in the photos, you will love this piece in person. This is a big heavy piece of pottery. I will package this with the utmost care to get it to it's new owner. This will be shipped via USPS, or UPS fully insured to be sure that risk is taken in transport. The shipping cost will reflect the extra packaging and insurance, but will be very close to the exact cost. I do not want to take any risk of damaging this beautiful piece of history. If this goes much higher than the start price, I will throw in free shipping. Check out this link to The Collectors of Illinois Pottery site to verify this piece is what is advertised and for more examples of this great pottery. I am not affiliated with this site, but it has some great photos: /id44.htm Thanks for looking!
