This auction is for a large Herkimer Diamond crystal, hand dug in Herkimer County, NY and weighing in at an impressive 66 grams! It is a complete crystal, but one of the tips has a large contact mark. There are several other contact marks on the surface. It is very bright and clear. This crystal was discovered in its pocket broken in two pieces, and it has been repaired to its unbroken state with top grade gem epoxy. Often Herkimer Diamonds are found broken due to stresses caused by seismic activity. Our auctions will always state when it is a repaired or reconstructed crystal, and we stand by our repairs, as we have many years of crystal repair and restoration experience. A wonderful specimen for you or someone special who loves unique minerals! About Herkimer Diamonds: True Herkimer Diamonds are only found in Herkimer County, New York. These amazing quartz crystals formed over 500 million years ago in the Mohawk Valley, perhaps as a result of an ancient sea die-off. Originally known as “Little Falls Diamonds” in the mineralogical community, these crystals grow in pockets within the Little Falls Dolostone that forms our valley. They are double terminated crystals with 18 natural “faces”: 6 on each end and 6 around the “girdle” or middle of the crystal. This gives them the appearance of being faceted.
