Superb Sterling silver large two handled cup by Samurai Shokai of Yokohama, Japan. This is a wonderful and very high quality art nouveau cup adorned with irises and reeds amid water swirls made by the famous Samurai Shokai Co, of Yokohama, Japan. They produced these very high quality pieces between 1890 - 1905, primarily to compete with the pieces being produced in USA by Tiffany & Co, New York. Indeed, aside from being sold within Japan, their pieces were sold into USA as well as imported into UK by Liberty & Co. for sale at their Regent's Street store. The quality and workmanship as well as design are superb as can clearly be seen in the pictures. The cup is some 7-1/2 inches / 190 mm wide handle to handle and it stands about 3-1/2 inches / 89 mm high. The cup is also very heavy weighing 335 grams.The piece in in excellent condition without dents, damage or repair.The underside is clearly marked 'Samurai Shokai Yokohama and 1000 for Sterling silver.I will post worldwide and I aim to despatch items within 3 days from receipt of payment.
