RARE AND EXCEPTIONAL JAPANESE CAST BRONZE AND CLOISENNE CENSOR WITH HARDWOOD FITTED BASE AND JADE TIPPED LID: This guaranteed original piece was acquired at auction by an esteemed NYC collector many years ago. See personal collection sticker on censor underside. Truly dramatic in form, size, and function. Created late 18th -very early 19th century . The censor has three matching legs of cast bronze of exquisite form and balance each flows into the carved open mouth of a lion or dragon creature. Four cloisenne inlay birds encircle the mid-section above deeply inscised body patternations that wrap around the entire piece. Offshooting are three bronze prongs side-mounted, please note one has been missing prior to original purchase. Two massive angled handles atop. The exterior and interior are unrestored and have never been polished thus preserving value and authenticity. Note the deep bronze oxidation exterior and untouched green metal patina on interior. The deeply grained wooden base is highly carved, removable, well-balanced on three feet. The heavily carved lid is beautifully carved and perfectly fitted to form. A graduated dark green jade lift atop. This lid is in need of professional restoration as it has several deep splits. No material has been lost but it remains for historic value and may be completely repaired. For auction sale 'as is'.

Measuring : 13" inches height with base and lid by 9" at widest. Condition : Very fine, unrestored natural bronze patina. Heavy and solid body weight.
