DIRECT FROM JAPAN - NO RESERVE PRICE LARGE JAPANESE KYO SUKASHI TSUBA MATSUKAZE DESIGN LARGE JAPANESE KYO SUKASHI TSUBA MATSUKAZE DESIGN DESCRIPTION: This fine and large TSUBA made of iron, for a KATANA or a WAKIZASHI size, has MARU GATA a circular form, with SEKIGANE and punch marks in the NAKAGO ANA, a look of a great strength and a well patined surface. The plain plate tapering towards the edge is pierced in delicate manner and finely carved within the rounded rim in YO SUKASHI or positive silhouette, with engraved details in an elaborate open work design which symbolizes a Noh story called MATSUKAZE, depicting the moon, two water buckets, wheels and pine trees The " Wind in the Pines", is a pictorial subject taken from Chapter 18 of GENJI MONOGATARI "The Tale of GENJI ". The two main characters are the sisters MATSUKAZE and MURASAME, Autumn Rain, who once lived on the Bay of SUMA in SETTSU Province, w they ladled brine in order to make salt.
