Kent Ipsen Glass Bottle: 18 inches high x 16-1/2 inches wide with a circumference of 52 inches and weighs about 8 pounds . The colors go from amethyst to almost blue purple with areas of blue with gold like spots which look like stars. This beautiful bottle is very large for glassblowing. Kent Ipsen is a well-known glass artist. He received his M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and studied with Harvey Littleton. In an exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts, MI which profiled the work of 14 glass artists who have had a major impact on the contemporary American studio glass movement includes: Dale Chihuly, Dan Dailey, Fritz Dreisbach, Henry Halem, David Huchthausen, Kent Ipsen, Dominick Labino, Marvin Lipofsky, Harvey Littleton, Richard Marquis, Tom McGlauchlin, Joel Philip Myers, Mark Peiser and Jack Schmidt. His work is exhibited in several museums and he was the Director of the Glass Program at Virginia Commonwealth University until he retired. The last auction price listed in the records was $600 for a 6" tall vase. The artist is a very nice man. We bought the bottle from the artist at an art fair in 1979 and we have loved it.
