Large Korean celadon bowl from the Koryo Dynasty of Korea (13th century), set on a ring foot with deep, rounded sides and inlaid in sanggam technique inside and out. The interior inlaid in white with two concentric circles and a collar of ju-i scepter heads. An upper band of parallel lines and conventional border motif (stylised tufts of grass) with in the area between three phoenixes among stylised clouds. The phoenixes inlaid in white with the beak, the legs and part of the tail inlaid in black. The exterior shows an upper and lower border of two parallel lines. Between these two four circular double lined medaillons, each centered by a single white chrysanthemum, their leaves inlaid in black. The low, glazed foot rim and the glazed base with three spur marks. Overall covered with a significant crackled green celadon glaze with high gloss and pooling near the base. Size 19 by 8,5 cm and weight 615 gram. Beside the usual wear and small firing and glazing defects (see photos) in fine condition with a substantial large but stable firing crack 3/4 of the bowl through the lower parallel lines on the outside of the bowl (picture 7 and 9).
