This VERY Large vase is made from a single piece of American Manzanita root burl. This "root burl"is found in California and Oregon and grows partialy below ground. Extremely heavy with rich deep purple and cream color. It sinks like a stone in water. Take a wonderful polish and is as unique as it is difficult to turn (like turning a piece of railroad track). It is 9" in diameter, about 1.5" high and weighs 2 pounds 4 ounces. The LARGER 4" diameter vase insert is heavy cast BRASS. It has a frog and holds water for cut flowers, dry flowers or a tea light candle. Unusual and very special wood...rarely seen. In a newspaper article on David Walsh, David Dennis, a retail buyer for the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian said "Walsh is one of his top vendors". Dennis, who is amazed at how light Walsh's bowls are, said his bowls sell between $60 and $200 but the highly figured larger bowls have sold between $300 and $800. Photos are of the actual piece. Photos after that of the bottom of the piece showing wood, number and signature are those taken around the studio or on site recovery operations. PLEASE! Lots of people hate to or can't wait thru an auction and so I do this on many pieces....especially more expensive ones. I start them at a price that pays me "minimum wage" and put a "buy it now" price that reflects what I think is a fair price. If someone wants the piece right away they can "buy it now". If someone beat them and bids the minimum, the "buy it now" price disappears and it goes thru the auction to be sold to the highest bidder.
