Large mid 1800's inlaid rosewood box in very fine condition. Measures approximately 12" x 8 ¾" x 6 ½". Inlaid with pewter bands, Mother or Pearl roundels and ornate top centre inlay depicting a bird. Apart from a tiny amount of restored missing Mother of Pearl to the edges of the key hole ALL inlay is original and complete. Stands on turned wooden feet (one replacement but need to examine very closely to notice). One piece of replacement veneer at the bottom corner of the back. As with a great many of antique boxes that featured side hoop handles the original hoops have long gone....Whilst they looked attractive they were not the most practical for load bearing. Fortunately the original back brackets survived and a good job has been done in replacing the hoops. The top closes square on the original hinges. Original lock with a working key supplied. Very clean interior . An attractive box of useful proportions that displays extremely well. Unpacked weight 1.6Kg ANY ITEM HAVING A PACKED WEIGHT IN EXCESS OF 2 ½ Kg COULD BE SHIPPED OVERSEAS AT A CONSIDERABLE SAVING ....IN MOST CASES PACKAGES UP TO 10Kg WILL COST THE SAME AS FOR 2 1/2 Kg THUS IN EFFECT IF MORE THAN ONE ITEM IS PURCHASED POSTAGE WILL BE FREE!!!!!!!!!
