Beautiful and colorful ancient fossil with 3 ammonites and 2 Orthoceras! This large, impressive red-brown plate is really an amazing 3D fossil sculpture. Polished to a high sheen. This is a classy specimen, carefully revealed by Moroccan artisans from the stone. What once was living shellfish and seafloor millions of years ago is now a spectacular solid stone fossil with three large ammonites, the largest 3 inches, and two 7 inch long Orthoceras. The whole matrix is 16 X 13.5 inches, and weighs about 12 lbs. The matrix color is a marble of reds, yellows and white. It looks like fine jasper. Coming out in high relieve are the ancient, extinct animals in orange and red. Nature laid this out in a manner that is easy on the eyes. Is it a decorator piece or a scientific collectable? Both! Display proudly on a coffee table, mantle or in a glass case. These are becoming fashionable even as part of a wall or floor in sophisticated or scientific homes or offices. No Reserve, the bidder wins it! DEVONIAN PERIOD: 395 - 345 million years ago. Orthoceras fossil (meaning "straight horn") were primitive types of nautiloids that looked like squid with a long, straight (or slightly curved), conical, chambered, and furrowed shell. The shell ranged from a few centimeters to over 9 feet long. The Orthoceras lived in the largest chamber in the shell.
