Description Up for auction is this fine southern folk art by master potter, Walter P. Fleming. Mr. Fleming is an 70 year old retired minister who trained along side one of the last of the southern old time folk potters, Burlon B. Craig. Mr. Fleming uses clay dug from his own property in the Catawba Valley area. Up for auction is this snake storage jug, not whiskey jug (Mr. Fleming does not like to use the term "whiskey jug") with a dark green alkaline glaze with blue frosty color highlights. This is the last snake jug that I have with the dark glaze and frosty highlights. I do not know if and when Mr. Fleming will be making snakes with this glaze again as the last few I have bought have the lighter ash/alkaline glaze on them. So bid now, it may be the last one available for awhile. The snake has two white eyes and scale like detailing on it's body. The jug has a glass run down by the strap handle, a thumb print and nice drippings down below. It also has incised detailing around the shoulder. This p iece measures 9" tall, is marked on the bottom, and is flawless and perfect in every way, no damage whatsoever! So see my feedback and bid with confidence! Thanks for viewing!
