LARGE OVAL MEISSEN BLUE ONION COVERED TUREEN Presented is a large oval covered tureen made by Meissen, the renowned porcelain company from Germany. This piece is in the Blue Onion pattern. The underside has the Meissen blue crossed swords mark. T are no cancel marks so this piece is first quality. The handles and finial are done in a swirl and shell Rococo type design. I have owned thousands of pieces in this pattern, and this is certainly one of the better examples. I believe this piece was made between 1850 to 1900. This piece is big enough that it could hold enough food to serve quite a few people. The base measures 11 3/8 over the handles x 7 1/2 inches. The height to the top of the finial is 7 1/2 inches. The height to the bottom rim is 3 3/8 inches. T are no cracks, no chips, no breaks, no repairs, and no problems of any kind. Any white spots that you see in the photographs are simply reflections of light.
