RARE STANGL BIRD 3757 STANGL SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER Album Album Album Album Album This tall, majestic Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher is one of the most sought after of the Stangl birds. He was first potted in 1944 and was produced sporadically until 1978. He rarely comes to market. Recently realized Internet prices for this bird have reached as high as $950.He is 11 inches tall, 6 3/4 long and 5 inches wide. The number 3757 is incised on the bottom. T is also a blue artist mark on the bottom.I'm very pleased to state that the figurine is in very good condition. T are no chips, cracks, age lines or signs of crazing. His coloring is vivid and vibrant. I can find no damage at all. We purchased this bird in 1981 in Lighthouse Point, Florida. The owner was an elderly widower. His family was in the process of moving him into a managed care facility on the very day we bought it.We did not plan to sell it. However, old age and failing health are going to place us in the same position as the widower all too soon. We hope a serious collector will consider placing a bid. This beautiful bird has been one of my wife's cherished pride and joys over the years. She has really resisted my listing it this week. She consoles herself with the hope we will place him with someone "who loves him as much as we do."This is a big and beautiful example of Stangl pottery at its best. I believe it is the long curving "scissor tail" which gives it an extra strong visual impact. No matter w you place it in a room or office, it will be noticed and admired.This item will weigh 5 lbs for shipping. The shipping cost you see on the front page of this auction is based on the rates for parcel post shipping to your Zip plus the cost of insurance. Insurance is required because this is a delicate item. We can not help you if an uninsured item is lost or damaged. You may choose priority mail for a little faster and probably safer shipping. Our shipping costs reflect the fact that we will pack your purchase with great care using a lot of bubble wrap and extra padding. We always double box fragile items such as this. This adds to the shipping cost you pay but I'm sure most buyers want us to do all we can to make sure their purchases arrive undamaged. We have never charged a handling fee ! More times than not our actual shipping cost is higher than what we charged the buyer. We also purchase delivery confirmation at no cost to buyers who live in the USA. When we notify buyers their items have shipped we also include a tracking number on the notice. International bidders are welcome. However, shipping costs are high for an item this heavy. International priority mail is $36 plus insurance to England and most of Europe. Priority is $21.20 plus insurance to Canada.
