We are offering for sale a large and fabulous quality late Victorian silver hand bell with a very hefty weight of over 21 troy ounces. The bell is superbly made with an Egyptian influenced terminal and a resounding "dong" from the clapper. It would be ideal as a bell to call diners to the table. The bell displays the Paschal Lamb badge of the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment. Around the base are a large assortment of battle honours. The battle honours include: Egypt, Vimiera, Corunna, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrennees, Niville, Toulouse, Peninsula, Afghanistan, Bhuznee, Khelat, South Africa 1851-52-53, Taku Forts, Pekin, Burma 1885-87. The handle is entwined with a laurel wreath and a Sphinx surmount. The Sphinx is borne on the Regimental Colour as a Battle Honour commemorating the part played by The Queen’s in the Egyptian campaign of 1801, especially in the Battles of Aboukir and Alexandria, in which the Commander-in-Chief, Sir Ralph Abercrombie, was mortally wounded.There are two engraved inscriptions relating to the Regiment.
