A fine original sampler embroidered on very fine linen in the form of a large handkercheif . English or American and second half of the eighteenth century. T are two full Capital and Lower case Alphabets each letter artistically rendered in multiple colors. T is a crown incorporated into the decoration and some of the verse may be Latinized. The lower center has the initials " E L" upside down, and the nice formal borders are circled on four sides with the inscriptions, each letter staggered with an embroidered motif as follows "E I L A / S E B H / T E R S / I T N I " maybe Eila Sebhters Itni or Ithi in Latin?? The piece shows very old oxidized staining from being folded well before it was framed in the early 20th century. T are many florets across the lower border and a burst to the center with two colliding heart tipped arrows in the upper right quadrant, w the heart is and also w this may have been held as a handkercheif(?) Framers label from Georgia Ca 1920 -1930 as the label indicates. Some oxidation to the textile as expected. This came from a wealthy estate bought at an Auction House in the same lot as the smaller sampler I have posted. Measure approx. 24 x 24 inches. Buyer pays $12.00 Shipping U.S., International pays as per country but it will be a large packet and expense. CA residents pay CA sales TAx. Thank you, please see my other great auctions for another smaller Sampler acquired with this an auction house. Folk Art emboidery silk cotton sewing textile fabric vintage antique original.
