This exceptional Uhuhu (Scavenger) Kachina was made by the talented and well-known Hopi artist, Keith Torres. The kachina measures 13 1/2 inches tall with a head-to-toe height of over 10 inches. This kachina is new (carved in November 2006) and is in pristine condition. It was purchased by the seller directly from the artist. This kachina is similar to the scavenger Keith made for the 2005 Arizona State market w the kachina won best of show (I asked Keith to carve the same kachina without the elaborate base). This kachina would be a rare and valuable addition to any kachina collection as the Scavenger kachina is not often carved and is difficult to obtain in contemporary form (the Uhuhu kachina is not listed in either the Wright or Neil David kachina reference books, hence it is rarely carved by Hopi kachina carvers). The anatomy and proportion of Keith's work are always impressive. The coloring of this kachina is exceptional for a Torres' katsina, yet the painting has been accomplished in a manner that permits the natural beauty of the wood to be retained. The hands read more
