LAST LOT OF HAPPY NEW YEAR SALE OF 15 TOY SAFES ENDING JAN 9 & 10. NO RESERVE! CLICK ON VIEW SELLER'S OTHER ITEMS. This lot offers at auction a very scarce "SECURITY SAFE DEPOSIT" very large and heavy (10 lbs) cast iron safe made by Keyser & Rex c. 1880s. Painted black with gold accents. Seven pieces. 8 1/8 inches H, 7 3/8 W (including lion heads), and 5 3/4 D (including dial). Beautiful working three number spring loaded brass combination lock. The large dial has 1-24, middle dial M-X and small outer dial A-L. The safe does not have a coin slot. Excellent condition with no defects. Some paint wear and chips as shown in the photos. The safe has three original wood drawers with pulls (one pull on a small drawer is a very old replacement). Safe has PAT.FEBY 15 81 and PAT.MARCH 1, 1887 on bottom. It has a lion head with bale on both sides. The 1881 patent is No. 237757 and was granted to L. Kyser, A.C. Rex & R.M. Hunter. The 1887 patent is No. 358697 and was granted to A.C. Rex. Copies of the original patents with complete drawings and specifications will be furnished to buyer. This safe is exactly like bank No. 53 (rated D, scarce) shown in Iron Safe Banks, 1991, a publication of the Still Bank Collector's Club of America, except it is the rare example which was made without a coin slot, has a three drawer supporting iron framework
