My little niece calls him the "big parrot" but this is really a gorgeous and very large figure of a cockatoo from Stangl Potteries-one of the most desirable American lines when collecting bird figures. Beautiful coloring from the cornflower blue crest down to yellow head and breast with pink flush on the stomach and around the eye, blue, green and teal back and wings right to the mottled majolica style base with pink flowers. Take a look at all the scans and photos- this fellow is both handsome and impressive. Measures slightly more than 12 1/4" tall at the tip of the crest X 4 3/4" wide X 9 1/2" deep. Figure is hollow but still weighs 2 lbs. before packing. Marked under base in black "Stangl Pottery Birds" in oval, also decorator mark ES and the number 3584 in slightly smudgy blue. I think t are at least two versions of the cockatoo; this is the largest, with head turned slightly to the right as you look at the figure from the front. Condition is perfect, I went over it with a strong magnifying glass in bright light and even being very critical, I can't find anything to note. A really nice addition to any collection! We will double box this beauty and while we strongly recommend Priority mail, we will ship parcel post if the buyer insists. Insurance will be required, cost actual and dependent on the amount of winning bid. Please e-mail any questions not covered in "pesky details" below. Thanks so much for stopping to take a look, if you're thinking of bidding, please read the payment details and some important information about shipping below them before you do..... ************************************************************* Payment is expected to be received within 10 business days (M-F) of the date we e-mail the invoice. We generally ship within 3 business days of receiving payment (Please note, if you use PayPal to send an e-check, that's fine, but they can take anyw from 3-7 days to send clearance. Why? no one seems to know-but shipment is within 3 days of the clearance notice). International bidders are welcome unless otherwise noted, but plan to pay by PayPal only, and please e-mail before bidding so we can check for any customs restrictions before ugly surprises come up. International shipping rates and methods from the U.S. have been changing considerably, and unfortunately, I think not for the better! Please note we do strictly observe all FAA and customs regulations. SHIPPING DETAILS: We are not a business, but small volume sellers, located in a rural area, so, especially given the price of gas, the only reasonable shipping method for us is the Postal Service. The USPS has now switched to a volume based calculation of postage. What that means is when you have something relatively light in comparison to its size, they add a surcharge -actually, all the shipping services do, it's just new for USPS and may make a lot of difference between Priority and Parcel Post on some packages or to some zones (distance based). We believe the buyer should have some choice if possible, and know most people don't want to pay any more than they have to for shipping -when we buy, we certainly don't! I have many years of experience with shipping and shipping claims, and the first choice you make is either cost or speed, because cheap and fast don't go together, EVER, no matter what carrier you use. The second thing to know is the longer something is in the mailstream, the more chances it has to get knocked around and damaged. Everything is handled by machine for most of its transit time, you need to pack defensively and we do- you can mark fragile all over it, the machine doesn't care. Insurance may be required on some items, is always recommended, and we will fully support the claims process should the need arise. We cannot be held responsible for loss or damage if optional insurance is waived. What we're going to do, instead of just over-charging or padding the shipping charge, is to give a shipping quote for at least the CHEAPEST service we believe we can safely use ...
