Rare Monumental Stoneware Flowerpot with Cobalt Decoration and Molded Handles, Inscribed "Hart Bros. / Fulton NY / 1884," approximately eight-gallon tapered pot with footed base, tooled shoulder, and stepped rim. Molded foliate-patterned handles with faux screw head terminals on each sides. Decorated around the body with a brushed vine bearing leaves, flower buds, and blossoms. Cobalt highlights to rim, shoulder, and handles. Inscribed faintly in cobalt on shoulder "Hart Bros. / Fulton NY," and on the reverse with the date "1884". An outstanding example. The largest flowerpot in either stoneware or redware we have offered. Paint around base with possible restoration. Flaking to shoulder on interior. Significant restoration to rim. Two tight 8 1/2" hairlines from rim, primarily visible on interior, with some touch-up to these hairlines on interior and exterior of pot. Some additional traces of old painted touch-up to shoulder. A small iron ping to left of one handle. 4 3/8" in-the-firing line at base, extending 2 1/4" onto underside. An additional 3" in-the-firing line at base. H 15 1/4" ; Diameter (across top) 17 1/2".
