An excellent example of what is one of the most famous forms of inlay that featured on boxes from the early 1800âe(tm)s through to the very early 1900âe(tm)s. This particular piece is without doubt an early example and is in superb condition. NO MISSING VENEER OR INLAY. All contrasting edge trim in very good condition. Original inlaid escutcheon. All edges keen. It is the âe~Tumbling Blocksâe(tm) that steals the show with the wide variety of wood species cleverly arranged making maximum use of both colour and grain direction to achieve the 3D effect that is more correctly known as âe~perspective cubesâe(tm). A fair few very small boxes featuring the inlay become available and though they are desirable items it is only on the larger boxes that the true beauty of the grain and colour and 3D effect can be fully appreciated. This box measures approximately 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 4". The box has had a replacement tray fitted and has been very well made with bevelled outer edges and firmly fitted dividers and very neatly lined. The rest of the interior has likewise been neatly relined very much in keeping with the colour of the paper that was probably originally used, Original hinges and lock with the added bonus of what is believed to be the original bow ended working key. A true âe~classicâe(tm) design that is highly sought after and reflects a period of history that reflected the fashion to display items that made use of the beautiful woods that were being imported from faraway lands. No box collection is complete without an example of this style of woodenware. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
