Offered for your consideration is an exceptional vintage Norwegian hunting knife from A/S Helle. Though I've collected Helle knives for quite a while, I've never seen this model before. Helle makes outstanding knives and this knife is the finest I've ever seen from them. It's also the largest and is much larger than standard Scandinavian hunting knives. The knife was just beautifully made and really showcases the exceptional quality and craftsmanship that these knives offer. Many earlier Norwegian knives feature blades of laminated steel. In fact, legendary knifemaker Harry Morseth, a Norwegian native, turned to Norway when looking for superior blade steel for his knives. Laminated steel was popular for Norwegian blades as it offered the properties best suited for their primary uses. Norwegian knives were often used for chopping as well as cutting, and the strength of the laminated steel was well suited for this task. Many vintage Norwegian knives are found with dings or mushrooming on their spines from w they were pounded to chop through bone and wood. Most modern fixed blade knives actually come with disclaimers that strongly discourage this practice, but that's just one of the tasks that these knives were expected to handle.
