Up for auction is a footed bowl, in real mercury glass. The glass is in perfect condition, and the mirror finish inside the glass is about 99% intact, if not more so. I have a photo of the one spot that is discolored. It stands about 5.5 inches high and about 6.5 wide. It has fired on thin, white enamel paint on the surface of the glass forming a design around the piece. It is plugged on the bottom with what appears to be a piece of metal held in by wax. Its a really nice piece, and I got it in Norther Europe a couple of years ago. It really stands out on display in good light. Its really old. Good luck and happy bidding! DZ This comment was sent to me by someone with knowledge about this type of glass. Her comment is reproduced t: "Diane L Your gorgeous silvered mercury glass compote does date from the 19th century, circa 1860-80. This footed bowl on foot was made in Bohemia, and blown molded of non-flint soda lime glass, then decorated with a type of applied granulate etching! With a wonderful gold wash interior, the piece looks magnificent! Good luck with it!"
