We are offering an unusual and exquisite handpainted tureen, or handled bowl, from the early 1900s. The colors are deep and vivid, very nicely highlighted by gilding on the graceful handles and a wide band on the rim. The bowl pictures red, green, and purple grapes against a background of green and rust colored leaves. The bowl is marked by the importer, PH Leonard, who imported the Vienna, Austria, blank bowl around the turn of the century. The bowl is also signed and dated by the artist, M. Smith. Unfortunately our flash tended to wash the colors out a bit, as they are even more beautiful than shown in our photos. Condition is near mint--no chips, cracks, glaze crazing, or repairs. T is VERY slight wear to the gilding at the tops of the handles. The tureen is oval in shape and measures 15" across from handle to handle, 7" wide, and 7" tall at the handles. PLEASE CHECK OUR OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE BEAUTIFUL PORCELAINS, INCLUDING A LIMOGES LEMONADE/CIDER PITCHER AND GLASSES, AND A LIMOGES BOWL--BOTH ARE LOVELY DISPLAY PIECES WITH THIS TUREEN. We welcome any e-mailed questions you might have prior to bidding. Payment must be received within 7 days of completion of the auction or we reserve the right to re-list the item. Illinois buyers please add 6.25% sales tax. Payment by check, money order, cashier's check, or Paypal accepted. read more
