LARGE VINTAGE A. SANTINI BONDED CARARRA MARBLE STATUE ROMAN WARRIOR IN CHARIOT This Roman Chariotsculpture by Amilcare Santini, is signed: A.Santini and still has the original sticker on the bottom: Sculptor A Santini/Classic Figure/ Made in Italy. It dates to the late 1960's. The chariot in this spectacular statue was copied from a Roman chariot which F.A. Franzoni reconstructed in the seventeenth century from actual pieces which had been found. It is now to be seen in The Vatican Museum in Rome. Equestrian statues have for centuries been a supreme challenge to sculptors. The skill manifested in this work is apparent in the anatomical accuracy of the rendering of the two horses and the human figure, the realistic detail of the chariot and the complete grace of the composition. This piece was made in Italy from white carrara marble from the Carrara Mts. of Northeren Italy. The carrara quarries opened 2000 years ago during the regin of Caesar Augustus. Many of the great marble statues of history have come from the marble in these quarries. These are made of a bonded marble , a combination of white carrara marble and resin making it possible to get the shaping of these classic statues. They are made from a mold and all are hand finished in the ISAC-Santini workshops by several Italian Artisans, A. Santini, G.Ruggeri, E. Furesi and read more
