Up for auction is a beautiful richly-woven LARGE Vintage Scenic Wall Tapestry or Pictorial Rug. It depicts an 18th-19th century scene that captures a moment, frozen in time, in the life of a wealthy Ottoman Sultan and his wife who are spending a relaxing day with friends in the courtyard of their home. Seated on the left, the Sultan is enjoying a Turkish water pipe, an old method of smoking Turkish tobacco popular during the Ottoman Empire during the 17th to 19th centuries. The group is entertained by a young Turkish veil dancer gracefully stepping to the strumming of the Turkish long neck lute played by a seated figure in the foreground on the right. Coming down the steps in the background to the right is a young girl bringing refreshments, possibly traditional Turkish coffee. In the distant background is seen the intricate Byzantine architecture of a Turkish mosque, minaret, and other buildings. This wonderful Tapestry/Rug has a soft, silky velvet texture, and is finished with a 3.5 in. cobalt blue fringe. It has deep, vibrant and captivating colors, and superb detail. Tapestry/Rug Measurements: With Fringe: 63 in. L x 39 in. W Without Fringe: 56 in. L x 39 in. W The Tapestry/Rug is in MINT Condition with no spots, no discoloration, no tears and no imperfections. It comes from a smoke-free environment. We have enjoyed this lovely
