Large, old brass gyro-compass repeater, made by the Sperry Gyroscope Company. Mark XV Model O, Patent March 4, 1919. This is a very heavy item, solid brass with a lead end cap (bottom conical cover). The condition is very good, however, I have no way to know if it actualy works. The double layer glass is undamaged, clean with no cracks and very few minor scratches. The compass face is clean and undamaged. The upper brass sections are clean and polished, the lower areas are not. The solid brass gimbel ring has some old paint on it but can be cleaned and shined. With a bit of effort, the lower area of the solid brass housing will also clean-up nicely. The compass has no dents, nothing bent. The cone-shaped bottom cover, seen removed in several photos, appears to be made of lead. This small piece alone weighs over 5 pounds! The complete compass weighs slightly over 40 pounds BEFORE packaging to ship. Shipping weight will be several pounds more. The number 4022 is incised into the housing, I'm assuming this is the serial number. The compass measures as follows: Diameter of brass ring retaining the the glass is 9-3/4". Glass diameter is 8-1/4". Diameter of gimbal ring is 12". The compass, with bottom cover on, is approximately 8.5 in depth. Please e-mail any questions and see my other listings. United States shipping includes delivery confirmation, no inflated "material & handling" charges. This is a very heavy item and will be well packaged for shipping. Local pick-up OK, no handling or hidden charges for pick-up.
