Current prices for very small wooden boxes with black ink at real live and e-bay acutions are selling between $100.00 to $200.00 dollars. I brought this in 1977. I found it in an outside shed of an orginal General Store turned Antique store, one hour outside of Pittsburgh Pa. I am noting right now, that t was a big burn pile besides this building and do not bid if you are smell senitive. I am told the smell never leaves the wood, but I do not know if that is correct or not. This has been inside since then and I have restored it several times with leather conditioner and milsek oil. That is all I can smell right now. This box was holding several bars of old soap and the inside had the dryed black ink, or paint or tar on it. I can find No reserach under the Star Company, so if you have any please forward. This is being sold as is, with or without any smoke order. Item: Very Rare Orginal Vintage Wooden Star box with hand made nails and orginal leather strapes. The handmade nails date this from 1700-1800. S ilmilar boxes without the leather straps were mass produced by beer companies in the 1920. This is one that was not mass produced. Size: Very large 19 1/2" long x 14 3/4" deep x 10 1/2" height to the lid. Outside Front: The letters STAR are in black ink with all letters having an additional right drop shadow in a lighter black tone. Left side: Has the orginal STAR logo in black in measuring 8" x 8.5" in size. Back Side: Has the STAR words, but they are merely visible. Right Side: No design or words. Inside: All rough cut wood and appears to have dryed ink or black tar or paint on one side as shown. Top lid: T is a small patch of the black ink or paint on one corner. T are two leather straps holding the two top pieces together with hand made nails. Who ever made this box used nails to short for the one side and the leather piece pulls up. I cannot say it is missing nails because, you can see w someone has tried to re-nail the leather strap down, in several different places in the wood and by the holes in the leather strap. When you lift the leather you can see all the different nail holes and when you lift the top up this one strap do not stay nailed. Who ever buys it can hammer it down, I will not, for fear of cracking the wood. I can only state what I have been told by prior dealers and what I have researched about others auctions. This is an orginal with all orginal handmade nails, leathers and detailed. This wooden box is very worn from use but it is in excellent condition for it's age. If you are sensitive to any smells, of any kind do not buy! Feedback note: The last 39 people I have sold too, since 2003 have never complained about any smells from any of my products or T-shirts. In June 2008, I sold two never used designer purses, stored side by side, one lady left great feedback and the other left bad! The other bad feedback was because a lady, agreed to cancel a sell and then left bad feedback! So I am warning people, not to put to much weight on my feedback score, since people do not make too much sense when you look at all their actions and reactions. If you are not happy contact me before leaving bad feedback, so I can make it right. We are all human and make mistakes! Pay pal only customers. Pay Pal requires insurance, delivery confirmation, tracking, fragile handle sticker included in the shipping cost, which may not be cover in the current shipping prices. All orders and over seas orders have to have a confirmed e-mailed of the shipping locations, insurance, customs and shipping costs, prior to sending the invoice, and then you can use the buy it now button!
