This is a very large American Indian Hopi wall hanging kachina that is all hand carved out of 1 piece of cottonwood root and was sold at the Fred Harvey Alvarado Hotel indian room as it was called. This kachina is in excellent condition and measures 21 1/2 inches tall. It has no damage to it at all and retains 99% of its original paint. On the bottom of the kachina it is written ALVARADO HOTEL ALBUQUERQUE N.M. INDIAN ROOM. The Indian Room was a gift shop were people could buy native American crafts from Fred Harvey. The original receipt is signed by Charles Wright who worked for Fred Harvey at the Indian Room and later went on to own and operate the Wright Trading Post in Albuquerque for several years untill he died in the late 1930s. After that his wife carried on the business for several more years. Charles Wright left Kansas on horse back and rode all the way down to Mexico were he found no work he left and rode back up to New Mexico and starting working for Fred Harvey at the Alvarado Hotel in the Indian Room were he learned from Fred Harvey all about Native American Crafts. This kachina has all the classic and beautiful colors of blue and turquoise with red, white, & black colors making up the design.
