A large, and very heavy Mortar & Pestle made of glacial granite, cobbles the ancient hunter-gathers found along the nearby Ohio River.. The pieces were found in Daviess County, Kentucky. The large Woodland Indian artifact is some 9&1/2" long, 8" wide, and appx 3&1/2" tall. The Pestle is also granite, 4&1/2" tall, the bell is rectangular, 3&1/8"x 2&3/8", a nicely pecked-and-polished surface to either artifact. T are a couple farming made dings to the side of the Mortar on the w the widest grinding bowl is seen, a change in patination shows clearly how aged the granite has become. On the deep-cupped side t is a blackened residue in the bowl. This does not dissolve with Acetone cleaning, so consider it permanent (if it were petrol based it would have cleaned immediately). The two pieces were not found together, they've been in my personal collection for years, I paired them up for this auction; they are each one lifetime guaranteed authentic, period. Shipping/ handling is in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box, with lots of packing, $9.50 to anyw in the states (HI, and AL may have different rates with the new postal rates). Personal checks or money orders are welcome, NO holding period on either one--Roy A.
