Following an audit of Re-enacting equipment held by Society, available for re-enacting group we have six Hunting Shirts of the lighter summer weight Linen material. They were produced for an alternative Society British identity many years ago and hardly ever worn. Five are front Button opening with Double Fringed Cape and the other a single Fringe Cape and no Collar variant. The Fringing used is not a commercially available item but manufactured in the correct manner by folding and pulling out the long weave thread. (sat on the Sea Wall at Burnham on Sea one Bank Holiday in case you might have been passing by!!!!)They are off white in colour and ideal for dying a variety of different colours for suitable use by Rev War Militia or State Troops or indeed leaving in their presnt stste for some Rifle Companies. In fact, one British Regiment, 17th Foot, is recorded as wearing such an item to save wear on their Uniforms at some point during their service in the Colonies. Americans used Greens, Browns, Purple, Blue and Black.They are also of the type used by American Frontier Militia during the War of 1812, again against the British.
