My father was a pipe collector for more than 50 years. He decided to sell all his pipes when he became ill and even wrote descriptions of quite a few of them himself. This is the second of 10 pipes we will be listing this week. This is another of my dad's marvelous Danish pipes. This is a beautiful Larsen freeform with a long shank and short stem. The bottom of the bowl is pointed, but almost flattened at the front and back. The shank is gently curved. The top of the bowl slants down from front to back. There are wonderful little touches to this pipe - a really uniquely crafted beauty. There is absolutely marvelous straight grain almost all over with a bit of birdseye on the shank. The color is beautiful medium brown with some darks. There is minimal charring. There are marks on the mouthpiece. The pipe has been smoked and is in excellent condition. This is a large pipe for a big smoke - my dad's favorite. On the left side of the shank it is stamped Larsen - Copenhagen. On top of the shank near the stem it is stamped Straight Grain. On the bottom of the shank it is stamped 1 - HandMade - Made in Denmark. Length of pipe is 5 1/2". Bowl height is 2 5/8" to 3 1/8". Bowl diameter is 1 1/2" . Bowl thickness is 3/8". Internal bowl depth is 2 1/8". We are selling this pipe as we sell and will continue to sell all our pipes - in a no reserve auction. We hope that the person who eventually wins this pipe will love and care for it as my dad did. He thought pipes were more than a smoke - they were works of art and of craft. This is another marvelous Larsen, well crafted, beautifully grained - a great addition to your collection. We continue to be awed by all the Larsen pipes as well.
