Up for auction is this mid to late 1800's old japanese Carved Daikoku okimono mingkei figure. The wood is a japanese cypress wood otherwise known as Kiso-Himoki. The measurements are 7 1/4 in. high by 4 1/8 in. wide, by 3 in. wide. The condition is fine, it is in remarkable museum condition for its age, T aren't any cracks,t are no repairs,no chips just wear from age, outstanding Patina. The Daikoku is standing on bails of Rice ( represents abundance) with mallet in hand which represents wishes granted, and the sack over the back representing wealth. The hat on this fine work of art reminds me of a samurai helmet, piece is carved with fine detail. The lines you see in the face are not cracks, it is the grain in the wood flowing throughout the piece. The carving has some polychrome Red,black and silver gilt on the figures frontside. Upon close inspection the wood grain has a flaming fire color to it when angled in the light, very beautiful work of art and alot better than the pictures show. This piece came out of a very early estate in new england and is guaranteed to be as described. Through a narrow search on the web I have found some of these carvings up into the $1,800-$2,000 price range, a very solid investment for any collector. I am starting this early piece out without any reserve ( way below the value) to the highest bidder. Buyer pays shipping ( 10.00) payments can be made in the form of Money orders, personal checks, Paypal and . payment is expected within ten days from the end of the auction.
